Are Derby City Council collecting brown bins?
Our free brown bin collections will be resuming for residents of Derby on Tuesday 27 July. The brown bin can be used for garden waste including grass cuttings, leaves and weeds, and for food waste, cooked or uncooked. More information on what can put in the brown bin can be found on our website.
Can I put dog poo in brown bin?

Please remember that if plastic is found in your brown bin, your bin will not be emptied and a contamination tag will be placed on your bin to inform you of this. However you can use compostable bags, or, newspaper. The newspaper will absorb any liquid and is completely compostable.

No. Wrapping paper cannot be recycled because it is often laminated with plastic, foil or other non-paper materials. Much of it is also contaminated by sticky tape which is not recyclable and can disrupt the recycling process.
Can you put tea bags in the brown bin?
Overall, to help prevent greenhouse gas emissions from tea bags rotting in landfill, if you have a food or garden waste collection scheme in your area, then the best thing to do is place tea bags in this. Tea bags can also be added to your home composting bin if you have one.
How do you throw away pillows?
Simply place the feather or down stuffing into the compost bin and wait for it to slowly break down. Throw the pillows away as a last resort. When you have exhausted all of your options, sometimes all you can do is throw your pillows into the garbage. Alternatively, you can take the pillows to the landfill.
