Can you lose your Florida Bright Futures scholarship?
If not paid back, you will lose your Bright Futures scholarship permanently. After repayment, those hours are returned to your hour’s remaining for funding purposes. Due to verifiable illness or emergency, you may make a written appeal to FSU for hours dropped or withdrawn after the last day of the drop/add period.
Do you lose Florida Bright Futures If you fail a class?
Credits paid must equal credits earned. If you drop, withdraw from, retake, fail, or otherwise do not earn credit for classes, be prepared to repay for those courses by the deadline.
Can you regain Florida Bright Futures?
A Bright Futures, Florida Academic Scholar (FAS) who dropped to FMS award eligibility due to not meeting the 3.0 grade point average (GPA) requirement for FAS has a one-time opportunity to restore to FAS.

A student who fails to meet the minimum earned hours requirement in ANY academic year renewal period (end of spring term or end of summer term for spring/summer cohort students), will NOT be permitted a restoration opportunity.

IF YOU DROP or Withdraw from Classes AFTER YOUR Bright Futures IS DISBURSED. Your Bright Futures will be billed for the classes dropped or withdrawn after the initial drop/add period. The amount owed is based off the number of credits dropped for the term.

What happens if you drop a class and go below 12 credits Bright Futures?
If you drop below half time, you must repay the entire summer Bright Futures award. If you withdraw from a course, and remain at least half time, then you will have to repay Bright Futures for that course. You will be ineligible for Bright Futures until you have repaid in full.

If you determine the NC grade will not negatively impact your ability to renew your Bright Futures award for the following academic year or if you are graduating this academic year you may complete the Request to Reinstate Bright Futures Award for NC Grade Form.
