How do you feel after liver embolization?

You may feel like you have influenza (flu) and may feel tired and have a low fever and an upset stomach. You may not feel as hungry as you usually do. These symptoms are called post-embolization syndrome (PES), and they’re common side effects of the procedure. These symptoms usually get better in 1 to 2 weeks.

What should I do after TACE procedure?

You should be able to leave the hospital within 48 hours after the procedure, once your pain and nausea have subsided. You will be sent home with prescriptions for oral antibiotics, pain medicine and medicine for nausea. It is normal for you to run a fever up to a week following the procedure.

For 1 week, avoid lifting anything that would make you strain. This may include a child, heavy grocery bags and milk containers, a heavy briefcase or backpack, cat litter or dog food bags, or a vacuum cleaner. For 4 weeks, avoid strenuous activities, such as biking, jogging, weightlifting, and aerobic exercise.

How long do you bleed after UAE?

Vaginal bleeding is common post embolization. It often begins within a day of the procedure and may last for a few days. We suggest you use a sanitary pad and avoid using a tampon. If bleeding is exceptionally heavy or persists for longer than four days, please call our department.

  • You can eat your normal diet. If your stomach is upset, try bland, low-fat foods like plain rice, broiled chicken, toast, and yogurt.
  • Drink plenty of fluids (unless your doctor tells you not to).
  • You may notice that your bowel movements are not regular right after your surgery. This is common.
