Why was the Turner Contemporary built?
As well as providing a place where art can be seen, the building has been built to give artists a space to work with local people. Its original design, by Norwegian architects Snøhetta and Britain’s Stephen Spence, would have been situated right at the end of the town’s harbour mouth.
