What is Tapley meter?
What is Tapley meter?
The Tapley meter is the most recognised international standard decelerometer, and as such is trusted by many leading government authorities around the world to set local brake testing standards. Results of Tapley meter tests are accepted as evidence of braking efficiency in Courts of Law throughout the world.
How often should a Tapley meter be calibrated?
The recommended recertification interval for a Tapley meter is every two years and this is carried out at low cost by us, the manufacturers.
How often should a Decelerometer be calibrated?
every two years
To maintain accuracy, fixed brake testers have to be calibrated every six months and certificates to prove accuracy are issued to the test station. Decelerometers have to meet mandatory standards and also need calibrating every two years.
What is a brake Decelerometer?
A decelerometer is a hand held device for measuring dynamic braking forces during a vehicle road test. A vehicle decelerometer operates as if it were, and it could also be known as, an accelerometer as it calculates braking efficiency by using those forces captured during a vehicle’s deceleration.
How do you use a Decelerometer?
With the vehicle stationary, position and arm the brake tester, accelerate the vehicle at a constant rate in a straight line up to a safe site speed then apply the brakes in an emergency stop manner, hold the vehicle on the brake until the vehicle has come to a complete rest.
How does a roller brake tester work?
The brake tester consists of weighing cells on each side of the unit with a safety roller that detects whether a vehicle is present in the tester – this will also monitor any tyre slippage. The vehicle is driven onto the brake tester with its wheels centrally located between the two larger main rollers.
How do you use Tapley EBM?
Place the Tapley EBM in the vehicle with the arrow pointing in the direction of travel. NB. The Tapley EBM should be placed on the vehicle seat or front floor and as close as possible to parallel with the road surface. The unit is fitted with rubber feet to help prevent it from moving around during the test.
How many points can an MOT tester get?
The tester will be subject to a formal warning if they have: 30 points or more for the current case. less than 50 points in total from the current case, unspent formal warnings, and unspent short term cessation.
How often do MOT testers need a QC?
every two months
The QC check has to be carried out at least every two months on each tester and recorded on MOT Comp by the Quality Controller and acknowledged by the tester. So what do you do if a tester is absent – For shorter absences, it is best to complete the QC check as soon as possible after the tester returns.
How do you use a brake Decelerometer?
What criteria determines whether an HGV can use a Decelerometer test?
Decelerometers must meet mandatory standards and also need calibrating every two years. The longer period between calibrations is because they are only there for temporary use.” For a meaningful brake test, DVSA recommends that the vehicle should be at least 65% loaded, where possible.
How do you perform a brake performance tester?
Service brake test
- Position the wheels on the brake tester and ensure they are located reasonably centrally in the rollers.
- Leave the rollers running and note whether a significant brake effort is recorded from either wheel, indicating that a brake is binding.
