What is the difference between a chain fall and a chain hoist?

A manual chain hoist which looks like a metal block is called a chain block. Chain fall’s are also referred to as Chain hoists. You will most likely hear all three of these terms in the lifting industry.

What is a hook and chain block?

A Chain Block (also known as a hand chain hoist) is a mechanism used to lift and lower heavy loads using a chain. Chain blocks contain two wheels which the chain is wound around. When the chain is pulled, it winds around the wheels and begins to lift the item that is attached to the rope or chain via a hook.

Can you pull with a chain hoist?

Breaking down the difference between the two is as simple as looking at the direction the load needs to move. While a hand chain hoist is a great option for vertical and angular lifting, they are not suitable for horizontal pulling.

Can you side load a chain hoist?

Side loading can also force the hoist’s chain or wire rope out of position, which can damage the internal mechanisms of the hoist. A damaged hoist can require expensive repairs and result in a loss of operational time. Again, equipment and personnel can be put at serious risk of damage or injury.

How to choose the most suitable chain hoist?

A permanent installation for infrequent use is required

  • A temporary installation for erection or maintenance purposes is required
  • Precision location of the load is required
  • A suitable power supply is not readily available
  • How to use a chain hoist properly?

    • If transferring a load to a chain hoist, the chain hoist must be used to lift the load from the previous stationary environment. The load cannot be dropped onto a chain hoist. This automatically locks the braking mechanism. • Never allow the load to drop suddenly or to swing when transferring loads. • Never use a chain hoist as a towing device.

What is a chain hoist used for?

    – Winching cars – Moving machinery – Keeping loads together – Pulling pipe – Straightening poles – Load securing or lashing

How to install a chain hoist?

Check the track where the hoist and trolley combo is to be mounted. The run track of the hoist adopted is the I- Beam steel.

  • Assemble the hoist and trolley.
  • Installation for the whole hoist.
  • The clearance between the roller and the bottom of the track should be adjusted to 4mm.
