Where should a TXV bulb be placed?
Where should a TXV bulb be placed?
Locate the sensing bulb at least 18 inches from the point where the suction line exits the cabinet. The sensing bulb should never be located on a suction line header. Do not locate the sensing bulb on a vertical riser after a trap. Avoid locating the sensing bulb on any fittings.
Where would a TXV be located?
The TXV Expansion valves reside between the evaporator and condenser in the refrigeration cycle. With the main body made from brass the TXV includes both and inlet and outlet valve. The inlet is located at the bottom while a refrigerator outlet is on the side.
Where is the TXV mounted on the evaporator?
After the suction line is brazed and allowed to cool the bulb is to be mounted in the 10 or 2 O’clock position on a horizontal section of suction line within 6″ of the evaporator cabinet then insulated to prevent it from sensing ambient temperature.
Does the TXV bulb have to be horizontal?
The reason for keeping the tail end up on vertical lines and down on horizontal lines is to assure that the refrigerant charge in the bulb stays in the bulb and allows it to react better and quicker to changes in the suction line temperature.
Can a TXV be mounted upside down?
In a clean system there is absolutely no issue with an upside down TXV.
Should TXV bulb be insulated?
An externally mounted TXV that is not insulated will sweat/condensate. So if you don’t mind where the condensate drips to, and it won’t harm anything, no insulation required.
What refrigerant is in a TXV bulb?
R-410A
This stabilization ensures that the TXV operates more efficiently and better protects the compressor. There are two common approaches to what makes up bulb charge fluid. The first approach is to use the same refrigerant that is used in the system, i.e., using R-410A in the bulb for an R-410A system.
Does a TXV bulb need to be insulated?
How do you insulate a TXV bulb?
I prefer to use rubberized cork tape over foam tape for a couple of reasons:
- Insulates better than foam, easily conforms to create an air-tight “cocoon”.
- The adhesive on foam tape weakens over time & comes loose.
- Can apply it without having to completely see all sides to confidently know the bulb is sealed in.
What happens if TXV bulb is not insulated?
In reality, the only thing not insulating the sensing bulb does is increase the bulb temperature as compared to the refrigerant temperature. With a standard, generalized aftermarket bulb charge, this will result in the TXV overfeeding the evaporator.
